2017 || 10 ways to be savage

Wow! the pages of 2017 are flipping real fast.

Its day 9 already, how has it been for you? Its okay if you are still trying to find your bearing. I have seen on many social media platforms and even some particular Instagram handles that it is a year of “savagery”. For some reason i find it hard to play the devil’s advocate on this one. So, perhaps you don’t have a plan and intend to go with the flow, you know what? not having a plan is a plan in it self. However, if your the ultimate goal as a savage is to grow and make the best of your 2017 like i intend to, here are a few tips to consider:

  1. BE SELFISH

I know this might come off a bit too harsh but i am just saying that, you have to love yourself that much to want the best for yourself. Take time to be with your self. Invest in “me times”, build a relationship with yourself. Appreciate your personality a lot more. Understand yourself and know exactly what you want. Be able to tell when you are hurt enough to let go of a thought, situation, or relationship. What this means is that you have a high regard for yourself, a type of soft confidence but not narcissistic or arrogant.

  2. NO NEEED TO PLAY SMALL

You don’t have to shrink yourself or trim off your edges to give other people in your life validation. Be your self but be your best self. Who says you don’t have the right to be big too? We are all meant to shine just like little children. I remember a message from church where the pastor said “They sky is big enough for all the birds to fly at once without bumping into each other”. I always remember this saying and it further points out to me that we are all meant to shine after all, so why go low for others to go high? Instead fly high so other people whose destinies are tied to yours can fly high too.

  3. BE POSITIVE

Say no to negative thoughts and people – if you must please use the unfollow button. See the good in every situation, believe that something good is about to happen and surround yourself with people who share the same thought process.

  4. PLAN TO TRY SOMETHING NEW

I find that routines wear me out and i end up backsliding. As with any other thing i may struggle with, maybe trying to re invent or play around with ideas will make it more productive, that way i am having fun and getting better by the day. Learn a new skill, incorporate something new into your daily routine that way you don’t bore yourself out. Basically i am giving up a fixed mindset for a radical one.  Creativity breeds Innovation. Who knows you may have to start teaching people your method and eventually monetize it. Variety they say, is the spice of life. Platform shoes are trending today because some one got tired of  having their dress and shoes soiled with mud.

  5. BE FEARLESS

Sometimes i feel like i grew so fast. All of a sudden i have to think for myself and some “mini mes”. I realized in these past few years that being an adult is scary contrary to my thoughts as a kid. What is even worse is having regrets. We can not decide to stop living. Go all out, if your dreams do not scare you then they are not big enough. If you ever have to choose between fear and faith go for the latter. You see, with faith and fear you must believe in something you can not see. Let your dreams scare you, but be passionate enough to pursue it fearlessly.

  6. STOP TRYING TO ATTAIN PERFECTION

This year as always i am not rooting for perfection at all times. Some times, somethings are not up to us to fix so we must learn to let it be and move on to next one. We often end up losing other opportunities by waiting for one thing to be perfect. Nothing will ever be perfect except a puzzle.

  7. CULTIVATE THE HABIT OF WRITING

The pen they say is mightier than the sword. The battle to succeed is not won by trying to take down others instead it is in working to improve on yourself based on lessons from yesterday’s mistake. It is not enough to have it in your head every once in a while, you will need to go back to it to ensure you are on the right track, if not so, you can quickly retrace your steps. So many lucrative ventures have been miscarried because they were not properly documented. Write out your shopping lists, map out plans, put down ideas in writing the moment they come to you, document your activities and achievements. It becomes easy to look back and appreciate how far you have come and how well it has been. A bedside journal, a note pad in your bag or a refrigerator/kitchen tabletop sticky note will be a good investment. Writing helps you to save money and make more money. I think that successful people wrote their own stories.

Jeremiah 30 vs 2- “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘Write all the words which I have spoken to you in a book.

Habbakuk 2:2-3 – Then the LORD answered me and said, “Record the vision And inscribe it on tablets,That the one who reads it may run.“For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay

  8. TAKE YOUR HEALTH SERIOUSLY

Eat healthy and improve on your physical activity. That body treat you have always wanted to give yourself plan, to get it done. I always procrastinated my plan of getting a facial treatment since 2015, sometimes because of money other times because of time. It can be as trivial as a facial or as serious as a pap smear, you are better off getting it done. According to A.J Reb Materi, “so many people spend their health gaining wealth and then have to spend their wealth to regain back health”. I have said to my self, “It is my life to live, I own it, no one else does and it is just this one life, so it is my duty to care for and protect it”

  9. JUST DO IT

Its high time you stopped giving excuses for why you think you can not do that thing. People’s opinion will not matter much also, if you need to get to where you see yourself. Not every advice you get must be taken. People will be people and because they care about you, they are trying to guide you to do  right. They do not see what you see ahead and so they can’t make the connection.  Shout out to all those few good people who are in the spirit. One of two things will happen: negative or positive(most likely). Here’s the way i see the negative though:

Risk taken, lesson learnt………Well, I came out stronger and better.

Will i take another such risk? yes, but with more reinforcements. Outcome: Positive or Positive.

I think this is how people get matured really; not by age, but by how much chances you have taken and how your sense of judgement has relatively improved. The earlier you take risks the sooner you become a voice of reason on a subject matter.

  10. PUT GOD FIRST

I really don’t want to go back and forth on this one. These two scriptures kind of sum up what i have in mind so i will just cut the chase.

Matthew 6 vs 33 – But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Galatians 5 vs 22-23 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

If you made it to this point you are the real MVP. Do you have any ideas or points to add? i am open to them. Feel free to use the comment section and lets interact. If you found this helpful go ahead and share with friends. Lets us slay 2017 together.

Till you hear from me again ….XOXO
